When we recently rebuilt the Site Bar, which Kyle covered a bit yesterday, we were sure it was going to be 1) easier to use, 2) more reliable across devices and, 3) much quicker to load than its predecessor. Speed is very important since this feature will be accessed every time an author uses Barley.
However, one of the side benefits of throwing all of our old code out was that we dramatically reduced the load time of our customer’s sites. With our latest release, the Site Bar no longer loads for logged out users — it only loads for site authors. This has slimmed the page weight of our customer’s web sites dramatically causing every single page view served by Barley to be much, much quicker. This adds up quickly when we’re serving a few hundred thousand page views per month.
